VOLUNTEER WORKDAY

Help us maintain the preserve's trails and common areas. Your help goes a long way towards allowing others to enjoy the natural wonders here! Examples of possible projects include, but are not limited to: removing brush piles/debris from trails, widening trails, or trimming invasive vines from trees.

In addition to learning basic techniques, we will review the well-documented medical evidence that meditation practice reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and actually slows the aging process. Attend one class or all, free, with donations to Hoffler Creek welcome.

EARLY BIRD WALK

Take a stroll around Lake Ballard and beyond with local birding experts (or by yourself) to identify birds in the area by sight and sound before the preserve opens to the public. Bring binoculars or spotting scope for best viewing.

Meet and learn the history behind a few raptors in the care of Nature's Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation. Afterward, set off on Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve's trails to search for owls in their natural habitat.

ARBOR DAY TREE WALK

Celebrate Arbor Day with a tour led by local arborist D.W. Coble. Explore the trails of HCWP, learning tips and tricks for identifying trees found along the way. At the end of the tour, be sure to pick up a complimentary tree to plant at home. Supplies are limited.

GO BIRDING DAY TALK & WALK

Interested in birding but not quite sure where to start? Celebrate Go Birding Day at HCWP with this introductory course, led by Dr. Shawn Dash, that will cover all of the basics. The trails of Hoffler Creek, where over 200 species of birds have been found, offer the perfect environment to put your newfound skills to the test.
