Rental Prices

Kayak Availability

Kayaks are available Tuesday - Sunday beginning at 10:00 am. We stop launching kayaks after 2:30 pm. Our kayak season runs from May through October.

We have ten individual and two tandem kayaks available.

On busy days, kayak availability may be limited.
Please call 757-686-8684 or email hofflercreek@hofflercreek.org to check availability or reserve a kayak ahead of time. Reserved kayaks will be held no longer than 10 minutes past the reservation time.

For safety reasons, we do not rent kayaks when winds are greater than 15 mph, during thunder or lightning, or if there are any small craft advisories in effect. A combined air and water temp of 120℉ is needed to avoid hypothermia. Please check here for wind conditions and here for water temperature before planning your paddle.

What Type of Kayak is Best for Me?

Single kayaks accomodate one person with a weight limit of 250 lbs.

Tandem kayaks can accomodate no more than two adults and one small child. Tandem kayaks have a weight limit of 550 lbs.

All children 12 and under must be seated in a tandem, accompanied by an adult.

How to Rent a Kayak

All kayakers must check in at the Visitor's Center when renting a kayak. Payment is due in person before launching. We accept cash and card. Pricing is listed above.

Kayakers must also read and sign a release form, and leave a valid ID. Parents or legal guardians must sign for children under 18 years of age.

The rental period begins when the renter gets in the kayak. The rental period ends when the renter returns the kayak, paddle, and life jacket to HCWP staff. Please account for about 15 minutes of travel time between the Visitor's Center and the creek.
