Perseid Meteor Paddle

  • Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve 4510 Twin Pines Road Portsmouth, VA, 23703 United States (map)

Each August, as the Earth passes through the debris left behind by a comet named Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to the best meteor shower of the year. They are called the Perseids since they appear to originate from the constellation Perseus. This meteor shower is one of the best to watch each year, sometimes producing more than 100 'shooting stars' per hour.

Treated to nearly moonless sky on Saturday, August 11th, join us to catch this year's annual peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower from Lake Ballard during our Perseid Paddle.

Use one of our kayaks, or bring your own. Led by experienced Hoffler Creek paddle guides and staff, we'll launch as a group to catch this spectacular show. After spending a couple of hours on the water we'll return to our Headquarters for some late night pizza, s'mores, and maybe a cold beverage.

Participation is $45/non-member but only $30/HCWF members. Space is limited, participants must be at least 18 years of age for this event and advanced registration is required. Unfortunately online registration can not be accommodated for our Summer Paddle Tours at this time. Contact us at or call us at 757.686.8684 to register today!
