Perseid Meteor Paddle

  • Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve 4510 Twin Pines Road Portsmouth, VA, 23703 United States (map)

Each August, as the Earth passes through the debris left behind by a comet named Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to the best meteor shower of the year. They are called the Perseids since they appear to originate from the constellation Perseus. Join us to catch this year's annual peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower from Lake Ballard during our Perseid Paddle.

Use one of our kayaks, or bring your own. Led by experienced Hoffler Creek Kayak Volunteers, we'll launch as a group to catch this spectacular show. After spending a couple of hours on the water we'll return to our Headquarters for some pizza and s'mores ala fireside.

Those who wish to catch the remainder of the shower overnight can join us as we lock-in at the preserve for the night.

Participation is $50/non-member but only $30/HCWF members. Space is limited, participants must be at 21 years of age and advanced registration is required. Unfortunately online registration can not be accommodated for our Summer Paddle Tours at this time. Contact us at or call us at 757.686.8684 to register today!
